In November 2016, I returned to St Andrews to sing the Angel in Handel’s last oratorio, Jephtha. The performance was conducted by Michael Downes and featured St Andrews Chorus and a chamber orchestra led by Lucy Russell of the Fitzwilliam String Quartet.

After taking part in the Baroque Opera Residency at Opera North the week before, I was delighted to be able to apply some of what I had learned to my performance, especially during the Angel’s recitative “Rise, Jephtha”. I was positioned in the gallery to sing – which made everything particularly exciting!

It was a great pleasure to work with all singers and instrumentalists and to see many familiar faces on stage and off. The Chorus’ next concert features Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast and the Adadgietto from Mahler’s Fifth Symphony – so it’s one not to miss! Many thanks to our wonderful audience for coming along.
