The University of St Andrews Gilbert and Sullivan Society has had a very successful year, which culminated in May with the second annual Global Gilbert and Sullivan Weekend.
The weekend’s events were brilliant fun, comprising a Cabaret in the Beacon Bar at the Student Union, a ‘come-and-sing’ performance of Trial by Jury, a specially-arranged service in St Leonard’s Chapel of Arthur Sullivan’s sacred music led by the Very Revd. Dr Ian Bradley and Walter Blair – and, of course, the (in)famous Grand Dinner! I was delighted to perform the role of Angelina in Trial, joining a cast of Society members old and new in the spirit of the celebrations.
The Grand Dinner itself took place once again at the Scores Hotel, with a lavish champagne reception, a delicious three course meal, hilarious guest speeches – and some excellent performances!
I will greatly miss the friends I have made in the Society next year – and am very excited to hear of their successes over the years to come. You can keep up with this fantastic group’s upcoming performances and events via their website: http://gilbertandsullivan.wix.com/standrews !
