Review: Elgar’s ‘The Apostles’

April 2015 saw a breath-taking performance of Elgar’s The Apostles, featuring the Heisenberg Ensemble, Choristi Sanctiandree, St Andrews Chorus and and an incredible line-up of soloists and conducted by Michael Downes.

I was fortunate enough to sing in the semi-chorus of Angels – taking the audience by surprise from the very top balcony of the Younger Hall! The piece as a whole was a joy to watch and listen to – and is certainly one of the best choral performances I’ve seen in St Andrews.

Ken Morris (The Citizen) wrote that “we were treated to spine-chilling sounds surrounding us as the Angels chorus (drawn from the ladies of the Choristi Sanctiandree) sang their Alleluias from the very rafters of the Younger Hall, inspiring us all in the hope of the Resurrection…all in all, very much an evening to be remembered for a long time, with great credit to all involved’.

Thank you so much to all those who came along!
