Saturday 3rd May saw the very first Global Gilbert and Sullivan Day in various cities and towns around the world; I had the pleasure of taking part in the celebrations in St Andrews, Scotland, with my University’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society!
The day saw a welcome reception with the Very Rev. Dr. Bradley, our Society’s Honorary Life President, as well as a promenade performance of The Sorcerer in the beautiful St. Mary’s Quad, afternoon tea – and ended with the fantastic Grand Dinner at the Scores Hotel.
During the Dinner, we heard speeches from the fabulous guest speakers Ian Lawson and Dr. Katie Bradley – and were even able to link up via Skype to other Gilbert and Sullivan celebrations in New York, Melbourne, Brussels and Bingley! There were also songs performed by various members of the Society – and an incredible array of raffle prizes handed out.
It was a brilliant occasion and one I am very proud to have celebrated with fellow friends and enthusiasts – and I hear the plans for next year’s Global Gilbert and Sullivan Day are even more exciting. Watch this space!
