It’s only 16 days until the University of St Andrews Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s magical trip to the Burn! This is an annual occasion that gives us a chance to unwind in the beautiful surroundings of the Burn House, Brechin, to raise money for a fantastic cause with an evening concert, to dress up to the nines – and also to drink a fair amount of port!
The set list was released a few days ago; this year it’s a great mix of old and new repertoire – and it also features several numbers from the Society’s upcoming show, The Sorcerer. I’ll be performing as Mabel in “Poor wand’ring one” and “When the foeman bares his steel” (both from The Pirates of Penzance), as Phyllis in “My well loved lord…Of all the young ladies I know” (Iolanthe) and as Josephine in “Never mind the why and wherefore” (H.M.S. Pinafore).
As I’m on my year abroad, I’ve seen very little of my friends in the Society over the past few months, so I can’t wait to catch up! I’m excited to meet this year’s new members, too.
If you are in the Angus area on Tuesday 21st January at 7.30PM, do come along to our concert – it promises to be an excellent evening!
